María Hernández | Adult Spine Medical Brigade | 2021
After living with lumbar herniated discs for two years, which worsened in November of the previous year with more intense pain that could not be relieved by pain medication, María traveled to Nicaragua hoping to receive treatment from specialists who could help alleviate her condition. She returned home facing, together with her husband, the challenge of saving money for an expensive surgery. A couple of months later, she received medical treatments in Honduras that left her bedridden for several days.
In mid-March, she received a message that gave her great hope. A friend and neighbor sent her a screenshot about the Adult Spine Medical Brigade that would be held in April. María contacted the Foundation early that morning to schedule her evaluation appointment. After traveling overnight from Tegucigalpa, she was evaluated and her surgery was scheduled for the medical brigade.
“After doing everything within our power, together with my husband, to improve my health… Without a doubt, it has been God who has opened the doors and provided a way for me to be here at the Foundation today.”
