Darwin | Anorectal Malformations Medical Brigade | 2023

Raquel, Darwin’s mother, prepares to leave La Unión, Lempira, heading to Santa Bárbara and then to San Pedro Sula, where Fundación Ruth Paz awaits her and her son for his first surgery as part of the Anorectal Malformations Medical Brigade.
Throughout his two years of life, little Darwin has had to deal with Hirschsprung’s disease, a condition that prevented him from passing gas and, more seriously, from passing stool.
They visited clinics in both La Unión and Siguatepeque, but without finding a solution. They eventually saw a pediatrician who suspected his diagnosis and referred him for tests at a private hospital in San Pedro Sula. It was there that they learned not only about the Foundation, but also about the Anorectal Malformations Medical Brigade that was going to take place.
“For us, he is an example of life. Even though he has faced many difficulties, he always remains happy and motivated. We had tried many things that would have been very difficult for another child his age to endure, but he has been very strong.”
Another testament to God’s work in people’s lives. Circumstances came together, and now Darwin will have the opportunity to live a normal life. His family, who had even experienced anxiety because of their little boy’s condition, can finally go to bed at night knowing that their son has found a solution to his condition.
